24th Rock Bottom Ruckus rallies support
For the past 24 years, CU Denver alumni have signed up, slipped on their boots, shown up to socialize — all while supporting student scholarships.
By the time this year’s Rock Bottom Ruckus rolled around on Feb. 23, more than 200 guests gathered. Then the numbers were ‘crunched’ and $52,000 had been raised to fund scholarships for students on the Denver campus. That’s a nearly 20 percent increase in proceeds over last year’s Ruckus.
“Our alumni and supporters really turn out to help students now coming through our academic programs,” said Julie Mullin, director, Alumni Relations. “This event is a lot of fun and such a great example of ‘paying it forward.'”
Much of the money raised comes from bids in a silent auction. Participants could bid on 125 items or services all donated by a broad range of supportive donors.
One leading supporter, First Bank donated $10,000; Liberty Mutual and Public Service Credit Union also contributed funds for the alumni scholarship program. A representative from Public Service Credit Union was even on hand with a $500 gift card to the Broadmoor that was offered during a drawing.
The evening’s festivities also are the result of continuing support by The Rock Bottom Brewery on Denver’s 16th Street Mall.
Tickets are available for the next Alumni Association-sponsored event on March 23 when the Denver Nuggets face the Washington Wizards at the Pepsi Center. The $15 ticket get you into the game and includes a hot dog and drink. Register by March 12, 2014.
