Mix a cappella singers

The magic started at auditions for the 2012- 2013 school year. The former CU Denver a cappella group grew from six members to eight, renamed itself “Mix” and instantly took the country by storm.

Earlier this fall, Mix was one of just six college a cappella groups to qualify for the prestigious SoJam Festival where they finished runner-up and brought home the award for “Most Original Group.” And, now they’ve qualified for the quarterfinals of ICCA, the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella competition.

Winning a spot to compete at ICCA is a tradition for University of Colorado Denver a cappella. This is the third straight year CU Denver has qualified.

All this success has turned the media spotlight on Mix, too. Video of a recent rehearsal showing the singers hard at work on their unique holiday arrangements is currently featured on the Denver Post website. The group will make a return visit to Chris Parente’s FOX 31 “Everyday” program on Nov. 28. And Mix will be featured on 9News Saturday Morning on Dec. 1.

The ICCA competition is scheduled for next year. The goal is to compete in the international finals April 20 in New York City.

Until then, ‘tis the season, and word is you haven’t really heard “Jingle Bell Rock” until it’s belted out by Daniel Bailey, Chris Kimmel, Luis Sandoval, Vanessa Spear Paletta, Gabriel Kitzman, Kaia Nutting, Michelle Ghun, and Emma Wallingford – otherwise known as CU Denver’s nationally acclaimed Mix a cappella.
