The 2011 anthology by College of Arts & Media Associate Professor of Art History Maria Elena Buszek, PhD, – Extra/Ordinary: Craft and Contemporary Art published by Duke University Press – has been awarded this year’s LoPresti Prize for Excellence in Art Publishing by the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS).
Here is what the jury wrote about the book: “A substantive, unique, and timely anthology that highlights an understudied art movement. The diversity of voices and the new subject matter distinguished it from other entries to the LoPresti competition. It is superbly organized and indexed. The layout of the book makes the material easy for the reader to navigate and the included images are informative and relevant.”
Based on her work in this area, Buszek was an invited speaker at a November 2012 symposium at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C.
