Documentary merits nod for sound editing
DENVER – A film directed and produced by College of Arts & Media’s Michelle Carpenter with colleague David Bondelevitch has been nominated in the 2012 Golden Reel Awards: Television category for Best Sound Editing: Short Form Documentary.The nod comes from the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) for the film “Above the Ashes.”

“Above the Ashes” tells the story of seven mountain residents who refused to evacuate the historic mining community of Sunshine and, for five days, saved numerous homes in the neighborhood. Fueled by wind gusts of more than 60 mph, the Fourmile Canyon fire quickly spread to Sunshine where Michelle Carpenter, an assistant professor of digital design in the College of Arts & Media at the University of Colorado Denver, has lived with her family for 15 years.
The MPSE awards will be announced Feb. 19 in Los Angeles.
The film aired on Colorado Public Television, Channel 12, last November.
