The American College of Physician Executives recently awarded Fellowship—one of its highest levels of achievement—to Robert Enzenauer.

ACPE’s Board of Directors honored Enzenauer as a Fellow for demonstrating significant and enduring contributions to the advancement of medical management.

“Fellowship is among the highest honors that can be bestowed on a physician. It shows that Dr. Enzenauer has attained regional and national stature while also demonstrating a mastery of clinical medicine and outstanding leadership skills,” says Alan S. Kaplan, MD, MMM, CPE, FACHE, FACPE president of ACPE’s Board of Directors.

Enzenauer has served as ophthalmology program director and department chair both in the Army, at old Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, and in civilian academic medical centers in Chattanooga, Memphis, and now The Children’s Hospital in Aurora. He is board certified in three specialties: ophthalmology, aerospace medicine and pediatrics.

ACPE is the nation’s largest organization of physicians in health care leadership. A nonprofit organization, the College is recognized by the American Medical Association as the specialty society representing physicians in management and holds a seat in the AMA House of Delegates.

On Saturday, July 10, Enzenauer was promoted to Brigadier General in the Colorado Army National Guard, assuming the duties as the assistant adjutant general for space and missile defense, one of three brigadier general positions in the Colorado Army National Guard.
He graduated from West Point in 1975 and retired from active duty in 1994. Enzenauer joined the Army National Guard in 1995 and has accumulated 35 years of military service. He deployed for one year tour to Afghanistan in 2002-2003 and four months in Iraq 2003-2004. His awards include the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star.

Enzenauer also will be hosting a medical contingent from Jordon and briefing them about Afghanistan. His briefing will include background from his service time in Afghanistan. He will be touring with them at the UC Hospital Eye Center and The Children’s Hospital. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a “Partner for Peace” with the Colorado National Guard, he explains. Members of the Colorado National Guard and the Jordanian forces meet regularly for joint training and mutual assistance. “A contingent of medical professionals from Jordan is visiting Colorado in preparation for mobilization of a Combat Support Hospital to Afghanistan in support of coalition activities,” he says. As the senior medical officer in the Colorado National Guard, Enzenauer will be briefing the medical contingent on current medical operations in the area.
