Roberto Frega, PhD

The CU Denver Philosophy Department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recently hosted visiting scholar Roberto Frega, PhD, currently a researcher at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris.

Frega specializes in political theory and the philosopher John Dewey. “After a thorough reconstruction of some strands of pragmatist epistemologies, I have worked towards the development of a contemporary theory of practical rationality based upon pragmatist and expressivist sources,” states Frega’s profile.

Dewey (1859-1952) was an American psychologist, philosopher, educator, social critic and political activist.

Frega gave academic talks in the Philosophy department and for the campus through the sponsorship of the Office of Student Life. During his three-week visit, Frega taught four upper-division/graduate seminars in political philosophy, including a John Dewey seminar taught by CU Denver Associate Professor David Hildebrand.

In addition to numerous exchanges with other Philosophy faculty, Frega also met and exchanged ideas with faculty in the departments of History, English and the Masters of Humanities.

His visit was made possible by a CLAS ACT grant.
