Dear Members of the University of Colorado Denver Community,

I am writing to inform you that I have come to an agreement with President Benson for me to take on new and different responsibilities to serve the University of Colorado. The Board of Regents is expected to approve a change in my title to Chancellor Emeritus, effective July 1st, at their June 23-24 meeting.

I will spend considerably more time on national issues and policies that affect higher education and academic health centers. As you may know, I serve on the boards of the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities and the Association of Academic Health Centers. I will take on an expanded role with each organization, focusing on several key initiatives:

• Increasing funding for higher education;
• Increasing the nation’s health-care work force;
• Facilitating initiatives to increase collaborations with international universities and academic health centers;
• Leading efforts to increase funding for urban medical centers to address health disparities in urban populations.

It has been a privilege for me to serve as chancellor of the University of Colorado Denver. I believe we have made great strides in recent years, and I am proud of the work and accomplishments of each member of our university community in education, research, and clinical care. You will hear from President Benson regarding leadership. I will be available to assist in the transition in any way possible.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your chancellor.
