Laura Phelps Rogers' exhibit at Denver's EDGE Gallery

Laura Phelps Rogers completed coursework at the College of Arts & Media to earn her undergraduate degree in sculpture this spring but she had one project to complete. Her effort is now a new exhibit at Denver’s EDGE Gallery.

Rogers said her large scale work “Entertain” invites visitors “to become part of the community that is the art installation.” She has set the base for others to add to the display with 1100 individual pieces.

“The installation is about response to color and form in a billboard-like display,” Rogers explained. “When someone sees the piece, what crosses their mind? I want people to become part of the ‘community’ even if they’re not artists.”

Creation of this latest work by Rogers was supported in part by a grant from the CU Denver Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) through the Experiential Learning Center. Another large scale work by Rogers, made of woven metal, has been displayed at the Center for Bioethics and Humanities at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Rogers will be available to discuss her work at the gallery during an open reception Friday, July 5, 6-10 p.m. The show is on display through July 14.

Located at 3658 Navajo in Denver, the artists’ coop EDGE Gallery hours are Friday 6-10 p.m., Saturday-Sunday noon to 5 p.m.
