DENVER – Prospective students, their family members and some with friends queued up Sunday for the CU Denver Admissions Spring Open House at the Auraria Events Center.
Each spring and fall, the Open House presents a broad range of information from financial aid and scholarships to admission requirements and advising, college and school-specific programs, student activities, governent and housing. Representatives including faculty, advisors, current students, and even alumni are on hand to offer information and answer questions.
The day’s activities kick off when the doors open for visitors to stop at information tables that wrap around the perimeter.
Scenes from the Spring Open House:
Alumni Association President Cathy Kaledo (BS, 1992) was on hand to greet Open House visitors as they entered. “I love this opportunity to help students thinking about coming to school here.” She earned her degree in accounting and believes the education she received positioned her to successfully pass the CPA exam on her first try, which launched her on her way to a successful career. “Coming to school here changed my life.”
Visitors to the Open House also can attend presentations focused on the admissions process for first-year students, and there were sessions targeted for transfer students. Topics included financial aid ‘ins and outs,’ admissions requirements and deadlines.
“The info sessions were particularly popular with potential transfer students,” said Admission’s Transfer Services Coordinator Lynn Hoffman. “Every chair was filled.” She observed that most of these students indicated they’re considering transferring from other schools in the state.
Across the room, James Speed with the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) also fielded questions about academic support, peering mentoring, tutoring and tuition.
The next Open House is scheduled for this fall.
