Hundreds turn out for Staff Appreciation Breakfast at CU Denver

Breakfast was served for staff bright and early Monday morning downtown in the Lawrence Street Center Terrace Room.

With 300 RSVPs, organizers split the crowd into two seatings — 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Overall, about 200 breakfast-goers are CU Denver-based employees, 100 work primarily at CU Anschutz.

Just outside on the plaza hot cakes were sizzling on a huge griddle with the toppings, eggs, sausage, juice and hot coffee set up inside for self-service. Staff Council hired the same vendor that was used for the pancake fest last October for staff at CU Anschutz.

Planned and hosted by the CU Denver l CU Anschutz Staff Council, the breakfast was in appreciation for everyone’s efforts.

“We found that hosting this type of event might be the best way to use our funding from the Chancellor’s Office to appeal to the most people,” said Deserae Frisk, chair of Staff Council. “So we did a pancake breakfast in the fall on the Anschtuz campus which turned out really well. Then we did a dessert event downtown. Now we’re just flipping the concept by doing a breakfast downtown and later this spring we’ll have to do desserts at Anschutz.”

The idea is to create a ‘sense of balance’ by doing similiar events at each campus, Frisk said

“I was really happy to see how many people showed up,” said Michelle Médal, Staff Council co-vice chair. “This informal setting made it easy for everyone to enjoy breakfast and get to know more people around the university.”

Staff Council is planning an afternoon dessert event at CU Anschutz for May 12.
