DENVER – Offered to high school students ages 14-18, the University of Colorado Denver’s Summer Music Industry Program is designed to show students what it takes to be a musician today. The program will help students achieve a higher level of artistic and instrumental proficiency, and improve industry-relevant fundamental musical skills that will prove valuable as students continue to pursue a career in music.
The program dates are June 15-27, 2014, and significant scholarships are available for families with demonstrated economic hardships, as well as competitive merit awards. The application deadline has been extended until April 30. The extended deadline still welcomes merit, financial, and partial DJ Chonz scholarship applications. Click here to apply.
“We’re committed to offering as much financial support as is necessary to make it possible for deserving students to attend,” said program Co-Director, Peter Stoltzman. “The Summer Music Industry Program allows students to engage with and learn from some of the industry’s most gifted and talented professionals.”
The program faculty and staff have cultivated deep relationships and partnerships in the music community that will provide students first-hand access to key elements and personalities in the industry. As part of the program, students will explore Denver’s music venues, recording studios, and music industry organizations, as well as meet and learn from current influential performers and music industry professionals. These experiences and opportunities will help students to develop a strategy for success in the music industry.
Students will also create original solo and ensemble arrangements and compositions that incorporate an understanding of musical genres, music theory and transcription/analysis, and record/engineer those original works utilizing digital recording techniques. Ultimately, they will contribute to a creative and productive team that supports individual growth and achieves the final group projects: a demo recording, live show, electronic press kit, & business plan.
This is the inaugural year for the CU Denver Summer Music Industry Program, part of the College of Arts & Media’s Music & Entertainment Industry Studies Department.
