CU Denver alumna Susana Cordova (MA, ’00) is the next superintendent of Denver Public Schools (DPS). Cordova, unanimously approved this week, holds a MEd in educational, instructional and curriculum supervision from the School of Education & Human Development.
In 2016, Cordova served as acting DPS superintendent, filling in while Tom Boasberg took a leave of absence. Read our interview of the leading Lynx to learn how Cordova’s DPS career evolved and how a CU Denver education helped her prepare for the top job.
Highlights from the 2016 interview with acting DPS Superintendent Cordova:
“What was so great for me was that the program at CU Denver was tailored to work that I was going to be doing in Denver Public Schools. I’ve also always appreciated the real focus on social justice and equity, particularly for a program that is in the heart of the city and serves people who are attending from the metro area. That’s not something you see in every program.”
“My heart is in the Denver Public Schools. I would do anything to ensure we’re on the right track. I believe so strongly in the work that we do and the difference it makes in the lives of all kids.”
