CU Denver alumus and former Denver Mayor Guillermo (Bill) Vidal was on campus Monday to meet with Chancellor Dorothy Horrell and visit his alma mater. Vidal graduated from CU Denver in 1973 with a degree in civil engineering. His visit was part of a collaboration between CU Denver and CU Boulder, the end result of which will be a documentary on his life.

A Cuban immigrant, Vidal left his native country in 1961 when he was just 10 years old. After he earned his CU Denver degree, he went on to run the Colorado Department of Transportation and Denver Public Works. He served as the mayor of Denver after Mayor Hickenlooper became governor. Vidal says earning his degree from CU Denver was one the most important accomplishments of his life and opened doors throughout his career.
